The Explorers

Who are the Explorers?
We are Cricket loving gentlemen who assemble periodically at the Hume & Hovell Cricket Ground to do battle with other groups of lovers of the wonderful game of cricket.  Over the past few years several fixtures have been played against the Crusaders and the Centurions of Melbourne, the Gentlemen of Yea as well as international touring teams from England; e.g. the London Stock Exchange, the ‘40 Club’,  the Harrow School ‘Wanderers’ and the U.K. Infantry Cricket Club. 

The Explorers Cricket Group continues to go from strength to strength and take the field looking great in the new shirts and fabulous caps, courtesy of Monichino Wines of Katunga, who are our major supplier of quality wines.  Families and friends are more than welcome to join us for these social matches with lunch provided and to relax on a deck chair.  See below for Application Forms or call 5784 9344.

Boys who have graduated from our coaching camps take the field as the "Young Explorers".

Membership Qualifications
Membership of the Explorers is open to anyone who appreciates the finer points of the game of cricket as a player, umpire, scorer or spectator.

Team Selections
Teams are selected from the pool of players available on any given day according to the strength of the opposition in order to make the matches as close and enjoyable as possible. For example a team of 19/20 year olds would not be selected to play against an over 40’s team.

To date matches have only been arranged as requested by other groups but as we increase our membership and pool of available players we will be actively seeking out opposition teams from Melbourne, Victorian country areas and touring international groups.

How do I become an Explorer?
If you are interested in joining the Explorers, simply download the Player Information form and forward to the Hume & Hovell Cricket Ground, Hanna’s Road, Strath Creek, Vic. 3658. Joining is free.
